Members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, are appealing to friends of the chapel and public-spirited individuals for financial support towards the medical care of one of their own, Mr. Gabriel Enogholase.
Enogholase, a former reporter with the Vanguard newspapers, is critically ill with stroke, kidney and liver problems, and other severe health crises, all complications from years of diabetes which have significantly impacted his ability to work and sustain himself financially.
A statement on Wednesday, jointly signed by Patrick Ochoga and Patrick Ahanor, Chairman and Secretary of the Chapel respectively, described Enogholase as a dedicated and respected member who has contributed to developmental and ethical journalism.
The statement noted that his current medical condition has however left him unable to work, resulting in a significant loss of income.
“Gabriel’s financial burden of medical bills, coupled with daily living expenses have become overwhelming.
“Despite the efforts of family, colleagues and friends to provide support, the situation remains dire,” the statement said.
The plight of the distressed journalist was brought to the attention of the chapel by his eldest son, Gabriel Ehidiamhen Akhuemokhan Jnr. who in his save our soul (SOS), said “I humbly appeal for financial assistance from members of the public to enable my daddy get back to his feet again.
“He has been sick and admitted to the Edo Specialist Hospital. We have exhausted all we had and now in dire need of assistance.
“Kind contributions and assistance will go a long way through his account number, 2182706859, UBA, Gabriel Enogholase.”
Meanwhile, in their immediate response, members of the Correspondents’ Chapel, on Wednesday, made a cash donation to support Enogholase’s medical care.
Chairman of the Chapel, Patrick Ochoga, while presenting the fund on behalf of members to the family at the Edo Specialist Hospital in Benin City, said the visit was to offer a token of the Chapel’s support and pray for his quick recovery.
Ochoga said, “The cash donation is a small gesture of our appreciation and a reminder that you are valued and cared for.
“We wish you speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing your work continue to inspire us.”
