The Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation spent a whopping N5.4 million on the acquisition of a microwave oven and an electric kettle, according to a report by SaharaReporters, citing public payments portal, Govspend.
According to the report, the payment was made to Rosebud Ventures Global Resources Limited on June 30, 2025. The transaction description reads, “for procurement of microwave oven and electric kettle in office of ohcsf.”
In a separate finding, an earlier review of Govspend showed that N6.8 million was reportedly spent on the purchase of “20ltrs of groundnut oil.” Govspend is operated by the socio-accountability platform, BudgIT.
The payment was made by the Pension Transitional Arrangement Department (PTAD) and was recorded as processed on May 26, 2025.
For context, 20 litres of groundnut oil is smaller than the more common 25-litre container, which sells for about N52,000, according to details on “Next Cash and Carry.” An online survey conducted by SaharaReporters found that the highest listed price for 25 litres was N100,000, depending on the brand.
It remains unclear how the PTAD arrived at a total of N6.8 million for the listed purchase.
Further review of the Govspend portal also showed that the agency responsible for debt management in Nigeria, the “Debt Management Office,” spent a total of N52.1 million on tea for its staff in 2025.
Records indicated that on August 29, 2025, a sum of N8.6 million was paid to Diamond Seasons Nigeria Limited for tea supplied for May and June.
Whiteluck Engineering Limited also received N8.8 million for tea supplied for November and December 2025, with the payment made on December 31, 2025.
Another N8.8 million was paid to Sani Sadi Nigeria Limited for tea supplied for September and October 2025, also processed on December 31, 2025.
De-Godf Energy Limited received N8.7 million on November 12, 2025, for tea supplied for July and August.
Similarly, Soleilune Nigeria Limited was paid N8.7 million on June 23, 2025, for tea supplied for March and April.
For tea supplied in January and February 2025, Nurasabe Nigeria Limited received N8.5 million, with the payment also made on June 23, 2025.
