Some aggrieved indigenes of Ogwashi-Uku in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State have called for the intervention of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori over alleged land-grabbing by their traditional ruler contrary to customary land administration by village chiefs and ‘Diokpa’.
Taking their protest to the Government House on Thursday, the governor appealed for peace and calm, promising to resolve the issue amicably.
Led by the Ogwashi-Uku Development Union (ODU) President General, Mr. Patrick Osamor, the protesters alleged that “Land grabbers sell lands without Diokpa’s consent; they have recruited youths into a cartel for nefarious land deals”.
Responding, Oborevwori, who spoke through his Senior Political Adviser, Senator Emmanuel Aguariavwodo, praised the protesters for their peaceful demeanour, which he said aligned with the administration’s “Enhanced Peace and Security”.
“I commend you for conducting yourselves peacefully. Be rest assured, your grievances will be addressed speedily and resolved amicably,” he said.
The governor underscored peace and security as pivotal, promising that the administration’s response would resolve the dispute and restore harmony.
