The Edo State government has initiated the process of probing the immediate past governor of the state, Godwin Obaseki following a letter to the state House of Assembly on Monday asking it to investigate two ongoing projects he initiated, namely the Radisson Blu Hotel and the Museum of West African Art (MOWAA).
Newsmata.com.ng reports that following his Supreme Court victory Thursday July 10, 2025, Governor Okpebholo had vowed to probe Obaseki’s eight-year stewardship, stating that “We will set up a Commission of Inquiry to look into the books and dealings of the previous administration. We will open interrogation to check their records”.
In his reaction to the judgement on Friday, July 11, the upbeat governor said, “They have finished fighting us, and now I am ready to fight back and ensure that all those that cheated Edo people in the last eight years are all brought to book,”
The Speaker of the House, Blessing Agbebaku, who at plenary on Monday, directed the Clerk of the House, Audu Omogbai, to read the letter from the state government signed by the secretary to the state government, Musa Umar Ikhilor, announced that an ad hoc committee would be constituted at the next sitting to investigate the affected projects.
Also, the Assembly received another letter from Governor Okpebholo, requesting the screening and confirmation of nominees for appointment into the Edo State Judicial Service Commission.
The Speaker referred the request to the House Committee on Judiciary with instructions to report back promptly.
Meanwhile, the House passed for second reading a bill seeking to repeal the Edo State Private Health Facility (Prohibition) Law of 1984 and to establish the Edo Healthcare Regulation and Monitoring Agency (EDOHERMA) to regulate healthcare facilities across the state.
In another development, the Assembly felicitated the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, on his birthday and ninth coronation anniversary.
