A N134 billion contract awarded by the former military administrator of Rivers State, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas to rebuild the old secretarial building in Port Harcourt has been cancelled by Governor Siminalayi Fubara and a refund of N20 billion paid to the contractor as mobilisation fee demanded.
Newsmata.com.ng reports that the decision to revoke the contract awarded to a Chinese firm, CCECC, during Ibas’ six-month emergency rule was taken on Thursday at the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Fubara.
Among other decisions taken was the constitution of a six-man committee headed by the Deputy Governor of the State, Prof. Ngozi Odu, to evaluate and make recommendations for the construction of Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the state to facilitate the conduct of external examinations.
The Council also directed the flood committee headed by the Deputy Governor to take immediate action to address flooding in the state and cautioned residents against blocking drainage channels.
