Five days after the astonishing defection of the entire political structure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State led by the state governor, Sheriff Oborevwori into the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) the immediate past Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Olorogun Ovie Omo-Agege who had been the acknowledged leader of the APC in the state has finally broken his silence and welcomed the new entrants.
Newsmata.com.ng recalls that Oborevwori, his predecessor and former vice-presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2023 general elections, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa along with all elected members from the executive to the legislature, state and federal, and local government councils, had on Wednesday April 23, 2025, announced their defection to the APC.
In a statement on Sunday which he personally signed as “Leader of the APC”, Omo-Agege, fondly called DSP, rallied support of members of the party in Delta State for the governor and other defecting members of the PDP, urging them to “embrace this development with unity, understanding, and a shared commitment to the progress of Delta State and Nigeria”.
The statement, titled, “APC Welcomes His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori And All PDP Leaders And Members To Our Great Party”, Omo-Agege said “the historic move” underscored the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda in driving growth and development in the country.
The former deputy senate president’s statement dated Sunday April 28, 2025, read:
