The joy of the yuletide season was on Monday ruined for some traders following a fire outbreak that razed eight shops and destroyed properties worth millions of naira beside the Sango Police Division Headquarters in Ibadan, according to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria.
The Chairman of Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Mr. Moroof Akinwande, in a statement issued in Ibadan on Tuesday, said eight out of the 84 shops in the area were affected by the inferno.
Akinwande however disclosed that no casualty was recorded in the fire incident. He said while the cause of the fire incident was yet to be ascertained, an investigation was ongoing to determine what could have ignited it.
He said the agency got a distress call about the incident at exactly 12:43 p.m. on Monday through a telephone call from one Mr. Akanni and immediately deployed personnel led by ACFS Bamidele Samsudeen to the scene.
“Upon arrival, we met eight out of 84 shops engulfed by fire.
“Firemen promptly launched a coordinated attack on the blaze and restricted the fire from spreading to other shops,” he said.
Akinwande said the firefighting operation was carried out in conjunction with officers from the Federal Fire Service Ibadan Command.
