The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Governors Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, on Thursday warned that the party would not continue to condone indiscipline within its fold, lamenting that it was indiscipline that had brought upon it its present travails.
Newsmata.com.ng reports that Governor Mohammed spoke at the PDP’s 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja, where the deeply embattled party resolved to hold its elective national convention between November 15 and 16, 2025 in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Amid gale of defections that had hit the party since 2023, Governor Mohammed said the door was still open for these who wish to return to do so within the window of opportunity.
Addressing newsmen, the Bauchi governor said, “As the BoT secretary has said, this is not the time for calling names. We sympathise with those who became impatient and left. But certainly, they will understand their follies. While we still leave the door ajar for them to come in when they wish to within a time limit, we will not continue to condone indiscipline because indiscipline is what brought us all the problems and challenges”.
Praising the resilience of the party in the face of adversities, Mohammed regretted that the governors were going through a lot of challenges just like the NWC, vowing that “We will continue to express confidence in the organs of the party, especially the NWC, which has shown magnanimity to even agree to go earlier than their time. They have shown that at least they are with us; they have shown selflessness, and we should always appreciate that”.
Governor Mohammed commended the efforts of the PDP’s founding fathers for restoring the public image of the party, assuring that the current leaders were committed to preserving that legacy.
According to him, “We are the sons of the founding fathers, and we are ready to work with you to ensure that personal interests do not divide us”.
Announcing the new date for its elective national convention to elect its national officers, Debo Ologunagba, PDP National Publicity Secretary, said it would hold on Saturday 15th to Sunday 16th of November 2025 in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Ologunagba said NEC had directed the national chairman, Ambassador Ilya Umar Damagum and the national secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu “to officially write to inform the Independent National Electoral Commission of the time, venue and agenda of the elective national convention in accordance with the requirements of Section 82 (1) of the Electoral Act 2022 and part 2, sub.12 of the Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties 2022”.
The PDP spokesperson said, “Accordingly, NEC approved the membership composition of the national convention committee as well as the membership composition of the national convention zoning committee to ensure a successful, transparent and credible elective national convention”.
