Blessing Agbebaku, Speaker Edo House of Assembly
The shocking discovery of gunshot holes and bullets on the roof of the Edo State House of Assembly building on Tuesday rattled the lawmakers who were resuming sitting for the 2026 legislative year forcing them to suspend sitting indefinitely while the security agencies were called in unravel the mystery.
Newsmata.com.ng reports that the majority leader of the House, Jonathan Ebamewu, confirmed the incident, who briefed journalists on the development, said the chamber was being thoroughly combed by security agencies who would report back on their findings.
According to Ebamewu, “We were ready for sitting today and our attention was called to the fact that there was an incident here, so I have to invite the Commissioner of Police and the DSS (Department of State Security) and we have left everything to them to investigate and to give us a complete report as to what gave rise to what we are talking about.
“For now, everything is fine and we are eager and ready to start our sitting today but unfortunately because of the incident, we might not be able to meet today because we want to give the chamber to security agents to comb it properly and for them to give a report that will be satisfying to everybody.
“However, be rest assured that everything is calm in the House and we will not be distracted. We will certainly come back to do our normal routine sitting”.
As of the time of filing this report, men of the Edo State Police command were seen combing the hallowed chamber.
