After months of speculation and prevarication, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has at last dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) though his new political platform was yet to be revealed as of press time.
Newsmata.com.ng reports that Governor Adeleke’s resignation came less than 24 hours to the PDP’s primary election ahead of the scheduled August 8, 2026, governorship poll in the state.
Curiously, the governor’s letter of resignation which was released late Monday night was dated November 4, 2025, an indication that his exit from the party had already been concluded long before now.
The PDP Chairman in Osun State, Sunday Bisi had on Monday disclosed that the party would not hold the primary election on Tuesday as scheduled due to factional crisis within the party and that Governor Adeleke was no longer interested in picking the party’s nomination because of the crisis.
However, a letter that came from the party’s national secretariat affirmed that the primary election would hold on Tuesday as scheduled at the Atlantic multipurpose Hall in Osogbo, the state capital.
In his resignation letter which was addressed to the Chairman of Sagba ward 2 in Ede, Adeleke cited the crisis in the party as the reason for his decision.
The letter, titled: “Resignation of my membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)’ read:
“Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my Membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect.
“I thank the People’s Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (Represented Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State under the People’s Democratic Party.”
