A serving Nigerian Police officer, identified as Inspector Bassey, has been accused of luring and sexually assaulting an eight-year-old orphan in the Mabuchi area of Abuja.
The minor, identified only as Zahra, is under the guardianship of a doctor following the death of both her parents.
According to information exclusively obtained by SaharaReporters, the traumatic incident occurred on Thursday evening, around 5 PM, within a residential estate in Mabuchi.
The young girl was reportedly playing outside when the suspect abducted her, luring her into his car before assaulting her.
“The matter was reported, and the police were immediately involved. The girl was taken to the hospital, where medical examinations confirmed the assault,” a source familiar with the case told SaharaReporters.
The source, who requested anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the case, revealed that the victim’s guardian has been solely responsible for her welfare and education.
When contacted, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, told SaharaReporters that she would confirm the details and respond.
“I will find out and get back to you,” she said.
