Six members of the House of Representatives from Delta State on Tuesday formally announced their cross carpeting from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC. Two members from Enugu State similarly defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the PDP.
The defections were announced by the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, at resumption of plenary on Tuesday in Abuja.
The six members from Delta State are: Victor Nwokolo, Julius Pondi, Thomas Ereyitomi, Nicholas Mutual, Ukodhiko Jonathan, and Nnamdi Ezechi, while the defectors from Enugu State are Mark Obetta and Denis Nnamdi.
Giving reasons for their defection “after due consultations”, the lawmakers cited an unresolved party crisis and parallel leadership in the state.
Recall that the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, and his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, dumped the Peoples Democratic Party for the All Progressives Congress two weeks ago.
