ABUJA – The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has revealed that he inherited legal liabilities amounting to N8.98 billion, stemming from pre-election litigations, election cases, and appeals related to legislative, governorship, and presidential elections.
Ganduje made this disclosure on Wednesday during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party held at Buhari House, the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.
According to him, the party’s National Legal Adviser has been working tirelessly to reduce the debt burden through dialogue and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, but some of the party’s accounts remain garnisheed due to outstanding legal obligations.
“We still passionately appeal to the National Executive Committee to intervene accordingly. It is important to note that some of our accounts are still garnisheed,” he stated.
Ganduje, who also spoke on his achievements in the last one and a half years, emphasised that the party’s leadership is now focused on winning the upcoming governorship elections in Anambra and Osun States.
“Our focus is now on Anambra and Osun states, and in compliance with the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the party has already begun preparations in earnest for the conduct of the Anambra primary election scheduled for April,” he said.
The APC chairman highlighted the ongoing reconciliatory efforts within the party, stating that they are already yielding positive results.
“We have embarked on massive reconciliation of aggrieved party members, and this move is gradually yielding the desired positive results for the party.
“Through dialogue, we have initiated high-level discussions among party leaders and stakeholders to resolve lingering differences among our members. The Conflict Reconciliation Committee, which you are about to approve, will build on this.”
The NEC meeting was attended by several key APC leaders, including the governors of Edo, Benue, Ondo, Ekiti, Kaduna, Jigawa, Nasarawa, Yobe, Niger, Lagos, Kogi, Ogun, and Imo, as well as the Deputy Governor of Ebonyi and former governors of Kogi, Kebbi, Niger, Zamfara, and Plateau.
However, notable absentees included: Former President Muhammadu Buhari, former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai and Former Governor of Rivers State and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.
As the APC strategises for upcoming elections, the party’s leadership continues to navigate internal conflicts, legal challenges, and political maneuvering to solidify its position ahead of 2025. (VANGUARD)
