Oba of Benin Passes Vote of Confidence in Otimenyin, Edo CP

The Oba of Benin, Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, on Friday passed a vote of confidence in the Edo State Commissioner of Police, (CP) Betty Enekpen Otimenyin, and charged her to remain focused in crime fighting and prevention.

Receiving the first female police commissioner who also happens to come from Edo State, when she paid him a courtesy visit in his palace, the Oba noted that the state is not an unfamiliar terrain to her.

Oba Ewuare 11, prayed his ancestors and the Almighty God to make Nigeria at large and Edo State in particular, to be peaceful for Nigerians and security personnel.

The royal father also prayed for the Commissioner to rise to the pinnacle of her career in the Nigeria Police Force, and for God to imbue her with wisdom in discharging her duty.

The Oba, who spoke in Edo Language said, “The Palace is very pleased with you. We are seeing what you are doing over there. May God and our ancestors empower you to do more.

“We look forward to your rising. We will keep praying for you. May Edo be peaceful for you, your men and for all of us. The palace and the throne are behind you”.

Addressing the Palace earlier, CP Otimenyin, who solicited for prayers from the Oba, described her deployment to the state as a homecoming and promised to raise the bar of policing to greater heights.

The CP, who spoke in Edo dialect, was accompanied to the Palace by the Edo Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), DCP Ben Abang and other senior officers in the Nigeria Police Command in the state.

She had attended several courses at different intervals, including National Mobile training course, Gwoza, Borno State, Advance Detective course in Police Staff College, Jos, Intermediate Command Course in Police Staff College, Jos, Strategic and Leadership Command course in Abuja, Irregular Migration Course in Ankara, Turkey amongst others.

She hiked through a variety of terrains since the she got enlisted into the Force in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and later rose to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Administration, for Zone 13, Dunukuofia, Anambra State.

She had also served as Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration in Zone 5, Benin-City, from where she got promoted to the enviable rank of Commissioner of Police onAugust 8, 2024.

Before her recent deployment as Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Otimenyin earlier served as the CP, Administration, Force Intelligence Department (FID) Abuja. She also served at various times as DPO, Aideyan, Textile Mill Road and Oba Market Divisions during the reign of Oba Erediauwa of blessed memory.
