After spending the Christmas and New Year festivities in prison, Justice Kabiru Olawoyin of the Oyo State High Court, Ring Road, Ibadan, Oyo State on Monday granted the embattled former wife of the Ooni of Ife, Naomi Shilekunola, popular media personality, Oriyomi Hamzat, and the principal of the Islamic High School, Basorun, Ibadan bail. The news of the bail threw their supporters and sympathisers into jubilation.

The court directed the suspects to produce two sureties each in like sum of N10 million. Justice Olawoyin also ordered Oriyomi Hamzat, a renowned broadcaster and chairman of Agidigbo 88.7 FM, Ibadan, to refrain from any podcast.

Newsmata reports that the three suspects are being tried over the ill-fated December 18 children’s funfair which resulted in the unfortunate deaths of 35 minors. Parties in the suit await a future date for the commencement of a fresh trial.

Speaking after the ruling, Oriyomi’s counsel, Adekunle Sobaloju, said, “The court delivered a ruling on the bail application filed on behalf of Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, and in that well-considered ruling, the court granted his application for bail, which means Oriyomi Hamzat has been directed to be released by the prison custody on bail.

“And the court also stated the conditions for the bail, that is, two sureties in the sum of N10 million. That does not mean those sureties should pay that 10 million, but they should enter into a bond that in case Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat jumps bail, that is what they will forfeit to the government”.
